چکیده
Method Children who attended to a tertiary outpatient pediatric allergy and asthma department and diagnosed with asthma were enrolled in the study. A questionnaire including demographic features and parameters to determine socioeconomic status were applied. Asthma control status of patients was evaluated according to GINA criteria. Laboratory investigations including complete blood counts with differential, total IgE levels, skin prick tests and pulmonary function tests were also performed.

Acute Asthma in the Pediatric Emergency Department: Infections Are the Main Triggers of Exacerbations
Background Asthma exacerbations are a common reason for Emergency Department (ED) visits in children. Aim To analyze differences among age groups in terms of triggering factors and seasonality and to identify those with higher risk of severe exacerbations. Methods We retrospectively revised the files of children admitted for acute asthma in 2016 in our Pediatric ED. Results Visits for acu...
متن کاملFilaggrin null mutations are associated with increased asthma exacerbations in children and young adults.
BACKGROUND Filaggrin (FLG) null mutations are important genetic predisposing factors for atopic asthma and have recently been shown to influence controller and reliever medication needs in asthmatic children. Our objective was to study the role of FLG null alleles in asthma exacerbations. METHODS FLG mutations R501X and 2282del4 were assayed in 1135 individuals ranging from 3 to 22 years old ...
متن کاملPresence of asthma risk factors and environmental exposures related to upper respiratory infection-triggered wheezing in middle school-age children.
Viral respiratory infections and exposure to environmental constituents such as tobacco smoke are known or suspected to trigger wheezing/asthma exacerbations in children. However, few population-based data exist that examine the relationship between wheezing triggered by viral respiratory infections and environmental exposures. In this investigation we used population-based data to evaluate dif...
متن کاملThe Effect of Maternal Age on Childhood Asthma
Some studies indicate that children born to younger mothers are at a higher risk of wheezing and asthma. To investigate the maternal age associated with asthma in children, a case-control study on 310 asthmatic and 310 non-asthmatic children aged 3 to 4 years was organized during a one-year period. A questionnaire was used to obtain information about the child’s personal susceptibility factor...
متن کاملCan meteorological factors forecast asthma exacerbation in a paediatric population?
BACKGROUND Asthma exacerbations attended in emergency departments show a marked seasonality in the paediatric age. This seasonal pattern can change from one population to another and the factors involved are poorly understood. OBJECTIVES To evaluate the association between meteorological factors and schooling with asthma exacerbations in children attended in the paediatric emergency departmen...
